Rhythm (Greek ‘rhythm’ = recurring motion)

Similar to beats of music.

Common English rhythmic patterns (feet) include:

Iamb (2 syllables; 2nd is accented) (most American speech is Iambic)

Trochee (2 syllables; 1st os accented)

Anapest (3 syllables; 3rd is accented) also called “galloping meter”

Dactyl (3 syllables; 1st is stressed)

Spondee (2 syllables; BOTH are stressed)
