Ode

Ode (Greek ‘aeidein’ = to sing)

A song or lyric poem usually addressing someone or something who is not present.

Three main types:

Pindaric:  Formal Beginning, Invocation, Prayer, Myth, Moral, Conclusion.

Horatian:  One stanza pattern repeated throughout the poem

Irregular: No rules except a feeling of dignity and emotional intensity.
