Madrigal

Madrigal (Latin: madrigal=something simple)

Poem written to be set to music.

Usually about love.

Short and simple.

Original form:

2 or 3 Tercets (3 line verses), followed by 1 or 2 rhyming Couplets (2 line verses) with all lines containing 7 or 8 syllables

Today, form is looser, retaining only the rule of the final rhyming couplet.
