Cadence (Latin = “falling”)

The ups and downs of spoken words, the rhythmic shape made by language flow    Rhythm is the pattern made by cadence.

Commas can delineate cadence.

In free verse, cadence can be interrupted by a line break (called “Enjambment” or “run-on line”).

In metrical verse, cadence is joined and perhaps controlled by meter (a regular pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables).
